Purpose

This visa allows eligible holders or former holders of a first Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462) to have a second working holiday in Australia.

You can:

• Have a holiday and undertake short-term work to help fund it.
• Do any kind of work.
• Study for up to 4 months (17 weeks).
• Travel in and out of Australia while the visa remains in effect.
• Complete 6 months of specified subclass 462 work to become eligible for a third Work and Holiday visa.

Eligibility

You must:

• Be aged 18 to 30 inclusive when applying.
• Apply before turning 31, by midnight AEST/AEDST the day before your 31st birthday.
• Hold, or have previously held, one subclass 462 visa.
• Have entered Australia on your first subclass 462 visa.
• Have complied with all conditions of your first subclass 462 visa.
• Have completed 3 months of specified subclass 462 work.
• Hold a valid passport from an eligible country.
• Meet health and character requirements.
• Have repaid, or arranged repayment of, Australian Government debts.
• Not be accompanied by dependent children.

If applying in Australia, you must hold a substantive visa or have had your last substantive visa expire less than 28 days ago.

The Department will consider your immigration history. A previous visa cancellation or refusal may affect eligibility.

Eligible passport countries

You must be a citizen of, and hold a valid passport from:

Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Israel, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, Türkiye, Uruguay, USA, or Vietnam.

Financial capacity

You must have enough money to support yourself and leave Australia. This is usually:

• AUD5,000 for your initial stay; and
• Money for onward travel, or an onward ticket.

Applicants in Australia do not need to provide financial evidence. Applicants outside Australia should attach it to avoid delays.

Stay

You cannot extend this visa. To remain longer, apply for another visa.

Your stay period depends on where you are when granted:

Time spent outside Australia does not extend the stay period.

If granted outside Australia, you must enter Australia within 12 months of grant. This timeframe cannot be extended or deferred.

Work, Study and Tax

You may do any kind of work. Usually, you may work for the same employer for only 6 months.

You may work another 6 months for an employer you worked for on your first Work and Holiday visa.

You must pay Australian tax on income earned in Australia. Employers may need to pay superannuation if you earn over the applicable threshold. You may be able to access superannuation after leaving Australia.

You may study for up to 4 months (17 weeks).

Family Provisions

You cannot include family members in this application.

Dependent children cannot accompany you in Australia at any time on this visa, including for one day. A parent of a child under 18 cannot apply online.

Cost

The visa application charge is AUD1,000.

From 1 July 2026, a lower visa cost applies to eligible Pacific Island and Timor-Leste citizens lodging a valid application. The source specifically identifies valid passport holders from Papua New Guinea for this concession.

Application Location and Grant Requirements

You can apply from inside or outside Australia. Declare your location correctly in the application.

• If applying in Australia, you must be in Australia when the visa is granted.
• If applying outside Australia, you must be outside Australia when the visa is granted.
• A bridging visa is available only where you applied while in Australia.
• Selecting the wrong location requires amendment and may delay processing.

Documents

Prepare clear colour scans or photographs. Upload each document once. Non-English documents must include English translations; include both originals and translations. Documents do not need certification.

Identity

Provide:

• Current passport pages showing photo, personal details, issue and expiry dates.
• Birth certificate showing both parents’ names.
• If unavailable, a family book, government identification, or court-issued identity document.
• Name-change evidence, if applicable.

Specified work evidence

Provide evidence covering all qualifying work periods, such as:

• Payslips or Australian bank statements.
• Piece-rate agreements.
• Group certificates, payment summaries, or tax returns.
• Employer references.
• Signed agreements for lawful pay deductions.

The Department may contact employers to verify work claims.

For volunteer bushfire or flood recovery work, provide a signed coordinator or host letter containing your personal details, passport number, duties, work location and postcodes, and number of volunteer days.

Character documents

The Department may request:

• An Australian Federal Police complete disclosure National Police Certificate.
• Overseas police certificates for countries where you spent 12 months or more in the past 10 years since turning 16.
• Military service records or discharge papers.

How to Apply

1. Create or log in to ImmiAccount.
2. Complete the online application accurately.
3. Attach required documents.
4. Pay the application fee.
5. Record the transaction reference number.
6. Respond to any requests for biometrics, health examinations, or further information.

The Department will not process the application until the fee is paid.

Processing

Processing times are longer than usual because of high Working Holiday Maker application volumes.

Use the visa processing time guide as an indication only. Processing may take longer if information is incomplete, documents are missing, or verification is required.

Do not arrange travel to Australia until you receive written notice that the visa has been granted.

Travel and Passport Requirements

You may leave and return to Australia as many times as you want while the visa is valid.

Use the passport linked to your visa grant when entering Australia, including if you hold dual citizenship. If you obtain a new passport, tell the Department; otherwise, you may face boarding or departure delays.

If another visa, such as an eVisitor or Transit visa, is granted after your Work and Holiday visa, the Work and Holiday visa and its work rights may cease. An ETA does not cease the Work and Holiday visa, but cannot be in effect at the same time.

Health, Obligations and Visa Record

You are personally liable for healthcare costs in Australia. Health insurance is strongly recommended. Some countries have reciprocal healthcare agreements with Australia.

You must comply with all visa conditions and Australian laws. Check your grant letter or VEVO for current conditions and visa details.

Your visa is digitally linked to your passport. You will not receive a passport label.
