Purpose

The eVisitor is a temporary visa for travel to Australia to:

• Holiday, cruise, or visit family and friends.
• Undertake permitted business visitor activities.
• Study or train for up to three months in total.

If study is the main purpose of travel, a student visa might be more appropriate.

Stay and travel

The visa is valid for travel for 12 months from grant. You may enter Australia as often as you wish during that period and stay for up to three months after each entry.

You cannot extend this visa. To remain longer, apply for another visa. Staying after the visa ends without another visa makes you an unlawful non-citizen and may lead to removal.

A round-trip cruise does not reset the stay period; time on that cruise counts as time spent in Australia.

Long stays or frequent visits may lead to questions about your travel purpose. The visa may be cancelled if you are not a genuine visitor.

Eligibility

You must:

• Apply, and be outside Australia when the decision is made.
• Hold a valid passport as a citizen of an eligible country.
• Meet health and character requirements.
• Be a genuine temporary visitor.
• Have enough money to support yourself and leave Australia.
• Pay, or have arranged to pay, Australian Government debts for yourself or family members.

You must hold a valid passport from:

Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Republic of San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom (British Citizen), or Vatican City.

A Vatican City passport must state that you are a national of Vatican City (Holy See).

You cannot apply using a non-citizen passport, certificate of identity, Titre de Voyage, or a British National Overseas, British Dependent Territories Citizen, British Overseas Citizen, British Protected Person, or British Subject passport.

Work and business activities

This is not a work visa. You cannot perform paid work for an Australian employer, work for or provide services to an Australian business or organisation, or sell goods or services directly to the public.

As a business visitor, you may:

• Make general business or employment enquiries.
• Investigate, negotiate, enter into, sign, or review contracts.
• Conduct official government-visit activities.
• Attend a conference, trade fair, or seminar.

Event organisers cannot pay you to participate.

You might be able to undertake volunteer work. Working, or intending to work, may result in visa cancellation, refusal of entry, or removal.

Study and training

You may study or train for up to three months in total.

People seeking to train in a childcare centre, study as a doctor, dentist, nurse, or paramedic, or enter healthcare or hospital environments should apply for a Visitor visa (subclass 600) and complete relevant health checks.

Family members

You cannot include family members in your application. Each family member, including a person listed on your passport, must submit a separate application.

Health and character

Health insurance is recommended. You are personally liable for healthcare costs in Australia. Some countries have reciprocal healthcare agreements with Australia.

If you previously failed the health requirement, the source states that a Visitor visa (subclass 600) is the most appropriate visa.

If you have a criminal conviction in any country, apply for a Visitor visa (subclass 600) instead. Arrival on an eVisitor with a criminal conviction may result in refusal of entry.
