Purpose

This visa is for Argentine citizens aged 18 to 35 who want to holiday, work and study in New Zealand.

The visa is currently closed and will open at 10:00 on 24 September 2026 (NZST). There are 1,000 visas available each year.

Eligibility

You must:

  • Be aged 18 to 35.
  • Be a citizen of Argentina and hold a valid Argentine passport.
  • Have a passport valid for at least 3 months after visa expiry.
  • Not have previously held a New Zealand working holiday visa, even if unused.
  • Be in good health and of good character.
  • Have genuine reasons for coming to New Zealand.
  • Have at least NZD $4,200 for living costs.
  • Hold full medical insurance for your whole stay.
  • Have plans to leave New Zealand at the end of your stay.

A previous working holiday visa for another country does not prevent you applying.

Stay and validity

You can stay for up to 12 months.

You must enter New Zealand within 12 months of visa issue. If you do not arrive within that period, the visa expires and you cannot apply for another New Zealand working holiday visa.

The visa starts:

  • On arrival in New Zealand, if approved while you are overseas; or
  • On the date it is granted, if you are already in New Zealand.

Work rights and conditions

You may work for up to 12 months in temporary jobs.

You must not:

  • Take a permanent job.
  • Operate a business as an owner.
  • Provide commercial sexual services.
  • Invest in a business providing commercial sexual services.

Your work must be legal and undertaken under an employment contract or contract for services. You do not need a job offer to apply.

If working in New Zealand, you need an Inland Revenue Department (IRD) number to pay tax.

Study

You may study or train for up to 6 months in total during your stay.

Travel

You may travel in and out of New Zealand as many times as you like before the visa expires.

Family provisions

A partner or child cannot be included in this application. They must apply for their own visa.

Evidence and documents

When applying, provide your passport details. Immigration New Zealand may later request:

  • Medical examination or chest X-ray evidence.
  • Police certificates.
  • Evidence of at least NZD $4,200.
  • Evidence of full medical insurance.
  • An onward ticket, or funds to buy one.

Accepted financial evidence may include bank statements, credit card statements, bank drafts or traveller’s cheques.

Your onward-travel funds must be additional to the NZD $4,200 living-cost requirement.

Translation requirements

Provide certified English translations of required police or medical certificates that are not in English, with scanned original documents. Translations of other non-English evidence may help avoid delays.

Medical examination or chest X-ray evidence, if required, must be less than 3 months old when received. Police certificates, if required, must be less than 6 months old when submitted.

How to apply

  1. Gather required documents and evidence.
  2. Apply online in English.
  3. Create or log in to an Immigration New Zealand online account.
  4. Complete the application, upload documents and pay applicable fees.
  5. Check your online account for updates.

Immigration New Zealand will email its decision. If approved, you will receive an eVisa.

Arrival obligations

Before travel, complete the New Zealand Traveller Declaration:

  • Air travellers: from 24 hours before travel begins.
  • Sea travellers: from 24 hours before the ship leaves its last overseas port.

You may be refused entry permission if you are not a genuine visitor, do not meet character requirements, have changed circumstances, refuse biometric collection, or cannot show onward travel or sufficient funds to leave.

Staying longer

You may be eligible for a further 3 months through a Working Holiday Extension Work Visa if you complete 3 months of seasonal work in the viticulture or horticulture industries.
