Purpose

This visa allows Brazilian citizens aged 18 to 30 to holiday, work and study in New Zealand.

The visa is currently closed and opens at 10:00 am on 8 October 2026 (NZDT). There are 300 places available each year.

Eligibility

You must:

• Be aged 18 to 30.
• Be a citizen of Brazil with a valid Brazilian passport.
• Have a passport valid for at least 3 months after visa expiry.
• Not have previously held a New Zealand working holiday visa, even if unused.
• Be in good health and of good character.
• Have genuine reasons for coming to New Zealand.
• Have at least NZD $4,200 for living expenses.
• Hold full medical insurance for your entire stay.
• Plan to leave New Zealand when your stay ends.

A previous working holiday visa for another country does not prevent you from applying.

Stay and visa validity

You can stay for up to 12 months.

You must enter New Zealand within 12 months of visa issue. You cannot delay or cancel the visa. If you do not arrive within 12 months, it expires and you cannot apply for another New Zealand working holiday visa.

The visa starts:

• On arrival, if you were outside New Zealand when approved; or
• On the visa grant date, if you were already in New Zealand.

Work rights and conditions

You do not need a job offer.

You may work in temporary jobs for up to 12 months, including for any one employer for up to 3 months. You must:

• Work under an employment or services contract.
• Only do legal work.
• Not accept permanent employment.
• Not operate a business as an owner.
• Not provide commercial sexual services.
• Not invest in a business providing commercial sexual services.

You need an Inland Revenue Department (IRD) number to pay tax on New Zealand earnings.

Study

You may study or train for up to 6 months total during your stay.

Travel

You may travel in and out of New Zealand as many times as you like before the visa expires.

Family

Partners and children cannot be included. Each family member who wants to come to New Zealand must apply for their own visa.

Funds, insurance and onward travel

You must have at least NZD $4,200 for living costs. Acceptable evidence may include:

• Bank statements.
• Credit-card statements.
• Bank drafts.
• Traveller’s cheques.

You must have full medical insurance, including hospital cover. Evidence may include an insurance certificate or insurer approval letter.

On arrival, you may need to show either:

• A ticket to leave New Zealand for a country you may enter; or
• Funds to buy an onward ticket.

Funds for onward travel must be additional to the NZD $4,200 living-cost requirement.

Health and character

You must answer health and character questions in the application.

Immigration New Zealand may request:

• A chest X-ray or medical examination.
• Police certificates.

Medical evidence must be less than 3 months old when received. Police certificates must be less than 6 months old when submitted.

Applications may be declined if you have a criminal conviction or present a security risk.

Documents

Provide passport details when applying. Immigration New Zealand may later request:

• Medical examination or chest X-ray evidence.
• Police certificates.
• Evidence of NZD $4,200 funds.
• Medical-insurance evidence.
• Onward ticket or funds for one.

Provide certified English translations of required police and medical certificates not written in English, plus scanned original documents. Translations of other evidence may help avoid delays.

How to apply

1. Gather your passport and supporting evidence.
2. Create or log in to an Immigration New Zealand online account.
3. Complete the application in English.
4. Upload documents and pay applicable fees.
5. Monitor your online account for requests or decisions.

If approved, you will receive an eVisa by email.

Arrival obligations and warnings

Before travel, complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration. Air travellers may submit it from 24 hours before their journey begins.

Entry permission may be refused if you:

• Are not a genuine visitor.
• No longer meet character requirements.
• Have changed circumstances since visa issue.
• Refuse biometric collection.
• Cannot show onward travel or sufficient departure funds.

Staying longer

If you complete 3 months of seasonal viticulture or horticulture work, you may be able to apply for a Working Holiday Extension Work Visa for another 3 months.
