Purpose

This visa allows eligible Czech citizens to holiday in New Zealand while undertaking temporary work and study or training.

Eligibility

You must:

• Be aged 18 to 35.
• Be a citizen of the Czech Republic with a valid Czech passport.
• Not have previously been granted a New Zealand working holiday visa, even if you did not use it.
• Be in good health and of good character.
• Have genuine reasons for coming to New Zealand.
• Hold at least NZD $4,200 for living costs.
• Hold full medical insurance for your entire stay.
• Have plans and funds to leave New Zealand at the end of your stay.

Working holiday visas held for other countries do not prevent you from applying.

Stay and arrival

You can stay for up to 12 months.

You must enter New Zealand within 12 months after the visa is issued. You cannot delay or cancel the visa. If you do not arrive within that period, it expires and you cannot apply for another New Zealand working holiday visa.

The visa starts:

• On your arrival date, if approved while outside New Zealand; or
• On the issue date, if approved while in New Zealand.

Work rights and restrictions

You may work in any legal job if:

• You work under an employment contract or contract for services.
• You do not take permanent employment.
• You do not operate a business as an owner.
• You do not provide, or invest in a business providing, commercial sexual services.

A job offer is not required.

You must obtain an Inland Revenue Department (IRD) number to pay tax on New Zealand earnings.

Study

You may study or train for up to 6 months in total.

Travel

After arriving, you may travel in and out of New Zealand as often as you like until the visa expires.

Family

A partner or child who wants to travel to New Zealand must apply for their own visa.

Staying longer

You may be eligible for a further 3 months if you complete 3 months of seasonal work in New Zealand’s viticulture or horticulture industries.

If your temporary visa expires while an extension application is being decided, Immigration New Zealand will normally issue an Interim Visa.

Required evidence

When applying, provide your passport details. Immigration New Zealand may later request:

• Medical examination or chest X-ray evidence.
• Police certificates.
• Evidence of at least NZD $4,200, such as bank or credit-card statements, bank drafts or traveller’s cheques.
• Full medical-insurance evidence, including hospital cover.
• An onward ticket, or proof of funds to buy one.

Funds for onward travel must be additional to the NZD $4,200 living-cost requirement.

Your passport must remain valid for at least 3 months after visa expiry.

If requested:

• Medical examinations and chest X-rays must be less than 3 months old when received.
• Police certificates must be less than 6 months old when submitted.
• Police and medical certificates not in English require certified English translations.

How to apply

3. Create or log in to an Immigration New Zealand online account.
4. Complete the application, upload documents and pay applicable fees.
5. Check application status online and respond to information requests.

Immigration New Zealand will email the decision. If approved, you receive an eVisa.

Arrival obligations and warnings

Before travelling, complete the New Zealand Traveller Declaration:

• Air travellers: from 24 hours before the journey begins.
• Sea travellers: from 24 hours before the ship leaves its last overseas port.

You can be refused entry permission if you are not a genuine visitor, no longer meet character requirements, have changed circumstances, refuse biometric collection, or cannot show onward-travel evidence or sufficient funds to leave New Zealand.
