Purpose

This visa allows Danish citizens aged 18 to 30 to holiday, work and study in New Zealand for up to 12 months.

Eligibility

You must:

• Be a citizen of Denmark with a valid Danish passport.
• Be aged 18 to 30.
• Have at least NZD $4,200 for living costs.
• Have a ticket to leave New Zealand, or enough additional money to buy one.
• Have full medical insurance, including hospitalisation cover, for your whole stay.
• Not have previously been approved for a New Zealand working holiday visa, even if you did not use it.
• Be in good health and of good character.
• Genuinely intend to meet your visa conditions.

A previous working holiday approval for another country does not prevent you applying.

Stay and travel

• You must enter New Zealand within 12 months after the visa is granted.
• If granted while outside New Zealand, the visa starts when you enter New Zealand.
• If granted while in New Zealand, the visa starts on the grant date.
• You may travel in and out of New Zealand as often as you like before the visa expires.
• You must leave New Zealand before the visa expires.

Work rights and restrictions

You do not need a job offer.

You may work for up to 12 months, provided that:

• Your work is under an employment contract or contract for services.
• You do not take a permanent job.
• You work for any one employer for no more than 3 months.
• The work is legal.
• You do not operate a business as an owner.
• You do not provide, or invest in a business providing, commercial sexual services.

You must pay tax on New Zealand earnings. You will need a New Zealand bank account and an IRD number.

Study

You may study or train for up to 6 months in total.

Family provisions

Your partner or child cannot be included in this visa. They must apply for their own visa to come to New Zealand.

Required evidence

You may need to provide:

• Passport details.
• Evidence of NZD $4,200 funds, such as bank or credit-card statements.
• Evidence of onward travel or funds to buy a departure ticket.
• Medical insurance certificate or insurer approval letter.
• Chest X-ray or medical examination, if requested.
• Police certificates, if requested.

Passport validity requirements:

• Applying outside New Zealand: passport valid at least 15 months after first arrival.
• Applying in New Zealand: passport valid at least 3 months after visa expiry.

Arrival obligations
