Purpose

This visa allows eligible Estonian citizens to holiday in New Zealand while undertaking temporary work and limited study or training.

Eligibility

You must:

• Be aged 18 to 30.
• Be an Estonian citizen with a valid Estonian passport.
• Hold a passport valid for at least 3 months after visa expiry.
• Not previously have held a New Zealand working holiday visa, even if you did not use it.
• Be in good health and of good character.
• Have genuine reasons for coming to New Zealand.
• Have at least NZD $4,200 for living costs.
• Hold full medical insurance for your entire stay.
• Have onward travel arrangements, or enough additional money to buy a ticket out of New Zealand.

Previous working holiday visas for other countries do not prevent you applying.

Stay and entry timing

You can stay for up to 12 months.

You must enter New Zealand within 12 months of visa issue. You cannot delay or cancel the visa. If you do not arrive within that period, it expires and you cannot apply for another working holiday visa.

The visa starts:

• On the date you enter New Zealand, if approved while outside New Zealand; or
• On the date it is issued, if you are already in New Zealand.

Work rights and restrictions

You may work for up to 12 months without a job offer, provided that:

• The job is temporary, not permanent.
• You work for any one employer for no more than 3 months.
• You work under an employment contract or contract for services.
• The work is legal.
• You do not operate a business as an owner.
• You do not provide, invest in, or operate commercial sexual services.

You must obtain an Inland Revenue Department (IRD) number and pay tax on New Zealand earnings.

Study

You may study or train for up to 6 months in total.

Travel

After arrival, you may travel in and out of New Zealand as many times as you wish before the visa expires.

Family

A partner or child cannot be included in this application. Each family member who wishes to travel to New Zealand must apply for their own visa.

Staying longer

You may be eligible for a further 3 months under a Working Holiday Extension Work Visa if you complete 3 months of seasonal work in New Zealand’s viticulture or horticulture industries.

If your temporary visa expires while an extension application is being processed, Immigration New Zealand will normally issue an Interim Visa.

Required evidence

You may need to provide:

• Passport details.
• Evidence of at least NZD $4,200, such as bank, credit-card, bank-draft or traveller’s-cheque statements.
• Medical-insurance certificate or insurer approval letter, including hospital cover.
• An onward ticket to a country you may enter, or evidence of additional funds to buy one.
• Medical examination or chest X-ray evidence, if requested.
• Police certificates, if requested.

Medical examination or chest X-ray evidence must be less than 3 months old when received. Police certificates must be less than 6 months old when submitted.

Provide certified English translations of required police and medical certificates that are not in English, plus scanned original documents.

How to apply

1. Gather your passport and supporting evidence.
2. Apply online in English through Immigration New Zealand’s online system.
3. Create or log into an account.
4. Complete the application, upload documents and pay applicable fees.
5. Respond if Immigration New Zealand requests more information.
6. Check your account for status updates and decision emails.

If approved, you will receive an eVisa.

Arrival obligations

All travellers must complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration:

• Air travel: from 24 hours before the journey begins.
• Sea travel: from 24 hours before the ship leaves its last overseas port.

You may be refused entry permission if you are not a genuine visitor, no longer meet character requirements, have changed circumstances, refuse biometric collection, or cannot show onward travel or sufficient funds to leave New Zealand.
