Purpose

This visa allows Finnish citizens aged 18 to 35 to holiday, work and study in New Zealand.

Eligibility

You must:

• Be a citizen of Finland with a valid Finnish passport.
• Be aged 18 to 35.
• Have at least NZD $4,200 for living costs.
• Have an onward ticket or enough additional money to buy one.
• Plan to leave New Zealand at the end of your stay.
• Have full medical insurance, including hospitalisation cover, for your entire stay.
• Be in good health and of good character.
• Genuinely intend to meet the visa conditions.
• Not have previously been approved for a New Zealand working holiday visa, even if you did not use it.

Previous working holiday approvals from countries other than New Zealand are allowed.

Stay and travel

• Stay for up to 12 months.
• If outside New Zealand, enter within 12 months after the visa is granted.
• The visa starts on the date you enter New Zealand if granted offshore.
• If granted while in New Zealand, it starts on the grant date.
• You may travel in and out of New Zealand as often as you wish before expiry.
• Leave New Zealand before the visa expires.

Work rights and restrictions

You may work in any lawful job if:

• You work under an employment contract or contract for services.
• The job is not permanent.
• You do not operate a business as an owner.
• You do not provide commercial sexual services.
• You do not invest in a business providing commercial sexual services.

You do not need a job offer.

You must pay tax on earnings. You will need a New Zealand bank account and IRD number. Apply for an IRD number.

Study

You may study or train for up to 6 months total during your stay.

Financial and insurance obligations

While in New Zealand, you must:

• Maintain at least NZD $4,200 for living costs.
• Hold an onward travel ticket or enough extra funds to buy one.
• Maintain full medical insurance.

Immigration New Zealand may ask to see evidence of funds, onward travel and insurance when you arrive.

Important warnings
