Purpose

This visa allows eligible French citizens aged 18 to 30 to holiday, work and study in New Zealand.

You do not need a job offer to apply.

Eligibility

You must:

• Be aged 18 to 30.
• Be a citizen of France with a valid French passport.
• Have not previously received a New Zealand working holiday visa, even if you did not use it.
• Be in good health and of good character.
• Have genuine reasons for coming to New Zealand.
• Have at least NZD $4,200 for living expenses.
• Hold full medical insurance for your whole stay.
• Have plans and sufficient funds to leave New Zealand.

You may still apply if you have held working holiday visas for countries other than New Zealand.

Stay and visa validity

You can stay for up to 12 months.

You must enter New Zealand within 12 months after the visa is issued. You cannot delay or cancel the visa. If you do not arrive within 12 months, it expires and you cannot apply for another working holiday visa.

The visa starts:

• On entry to New Zealand, if approved while overseas.
• On the grant date, if approved while in New Zealand.

Work rights and restrictions

You may work in any legal job if:

• You work under an employment contract or contract for services.
• You do not take a permanent job.
• You do not operate a business as an owner.
• You do not provide commercial sexual services.
• You do not invest in a business providing commercial sexual services.

You must obtain an Inland Revenue Department (IRD) number to pay tax on New Zealand earnings.

Study

You may study or train for up to 6 months in total.

Travel

After arrival, you may travel in and out of New Zealand as many times as you wish before your visa expires.

Family

A partner or child who wants to travel to New Zealand must apply for their own visa.

Required evidence

When applying, provide your passport details.

Immigration New Zealand may later request:

• Medical examination or chest X-ray evidence.
• Police certificates.
• Evidence of NZD $4,200 living funds.
• Proof of full medical insurance.
• An onward ticket or funds to buy one.

Acceptable living-fund evidence may include bank statements, credit-card statements, bank drafts or traveller’s cheques.

Your onward-travel funds must be separate from the NZD $4,200 required for living expenses.

Passport requirements

You must have a valid physical passport issued to you when applying. Your passport must remain valid for at least 3 months after your visa expires.

Enter identity details exactly as shown in your passport. Errors may delay, decline or affect entry permission.

Health and character documents

You must answer health and character questions online. Immigration New Zealand may request further evidence.

• Medical certificates or chest X-rays must be less than 3 months old when received.
• Police certificates must be less than 6 months old when submitted.
• Non-English police and medical certificates require certified English translations.

How to apply

1. Gather your passport and supporting evidence.
2. Apply online in English through the Immigration New Zealand online service.
3. Upload documents and pay applicable fees.
4. Check your online account for updates.
5. Respond if Immigration New Zealand requests further information.

If approved, you will receive an eVisa by email.

Arrival requirements

Before travel, complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration.

You may be refused entry permission if you:

• Are not a genuine visitor.
• No longer meet character requirements.
• Have changed circumstances since visa approval.
• Refuse biometric collection.
• Cannot show onward travel or sufficient departure funds.

Staying longer

You may be eligible for a further 3 months if you complete 3 months of seasonal work in the viticulture or horticulture industries.
