Purpose

The Global Workforce Seasonal Visa allows eligible workers to take seasonal jobs on the Global Workforce Seasonal Visa job list for an AEWV-accredited employer.

Stay and seasons

You may work in New Zealand for up to 9 months in each year.

• After 9 months, you must spend at least 3 months outside New Zealand in any 12-month period.
• The 3 months outside New Zealand do not need to be one continuous trip.
• The visa is valid for 3 years, allowing up to 3 seasons of work.
• You must leave New Zealand before your visa expires.

When the visa ends, you may apply for another Global Workforce Seasonal Visa or, if eligible, another visa type.

Eligibility

You must:

• Have a current, full-time offer from an AEWV-accredited employer.
• Be invited by the employer to apply using an approved Global Workforce Seasonal Visa job token.
• Have a job on the Global Workforce Seasonal Visa job list.
• Be offered at least 30 hours of work each week.
• Have worked at least 3 seasons in the same or similar job during the last 6 years.
• Meet applicable ANZSCO or National Occupation List skill, qualification and experience requirements.
• Have the skills and experience required by the employer.
• Meet health and character requirements.
• Genuinely intend to follow visa conditions.

The job offer must be for work during, or close to, an industry or sector seasonal peak. It must be for at least one season.

Job offer requirements

Your employer must:

• Be AEWV accredited.
• Hold an approved Global Workforce Seasonal Visa job check for the role.
• Offer at least 30 hours' work weekly.
• Pay at least the market rate.
• Provide a signed job offer, job description and employment agreement.
• Not pass accreditation, recruitment or operational costs to you.
• Continue paying the offered amount throughout employment.

The employment agreement must comply with New Zealand employment law. It cannot include unlawful deductions, a trial period or unacceptable bonding clauses.

Work rights and conditions

You may work only:

• For the employer named on your visa.
• In the occupation named on your visa.
• At the location named on your visa.
• At or above the pay level stated on your visa.

For your second and third seasons, you must continue working for the employer, occupation and location stated on your visa.

If your employer, role or location changes, apply for a Job Change. A Job Change is available only for a job on the Global Workforce Seasonal Visa list. To move to an unlisted job, apply for a different work visa.

Migrant workers have the same employment rights as New Zealand workers. Reporting mistreatment or unsafe work will not affect your visa.

Study

You may study for up to 3 months in any 12-month period.

To study longer, apply for a variation of conditions. Employer-required work-related study may be possible; the employer must pay for it.

Family provisions

You cannot include your partner or dependent children in this application.

They are not eligible for a visa based on their relationship to you.

Health and character

Health

You must be in good health. You may need a chest X-ray and medical examination if you have not provided one within the last 2 years.

• Do not book an appointment until Immigration New Zealand asks you to.
• Use a panel physician.
• Medical and chest X-ray evidence must be less than 3 months old when received.

Character

If aged 17 or older, provide police certificates less than 6 months old.

Police certificates are required from:

• Countries where you are a citizen.
• Countries where you have spent more than 5 years since age 17.

You may not need new certificates if you submitted certificates for an earlier visa application and they were issued within the last 24 months.

Required documents

Provide:

• Signed job offer for your first season.
• Employment agreement and job description.
• Passport or certificate of identity copy.
• One acceptable photo.
• Evidence of job experience, skills and qualifications.
• Police certificates, if required.
• Chest X-ray certificate, if required.
• Medical certificate, if required.
• Certified English translations of documents not in English.

Your passport or certificate of identity must remain valid for at least 3 months after your planned departure from New Zealand.

Evidence of the required 3 seasons' experience may include employer references, employment certificates, payslips or tax certificates. A CV or résumé alone is not sufficient.

Warning: Immigration New Zealand will not hold an incomplete application while waiting for missing documents.

Additional country-specific documents

• China, Hong Kong or Macau: Supplementary form may be required.
• Indonesia: Kartu Keluarga required.
• French Polynesia or Wallis and Futuna: Non-French nationals need a Carte d'assuré.
• New Caledonia: Livret de famille required; non-French nationals also need a carte d'assuré.
• Philippines: A passport valid 6 months after intended departure may be required for Philippine exit requirements.

How to apply

1. Receive a full-time job offer from an eligible accredited employer.
2. Obtain the job offer, job description, employment agreement and job token.
3. Open and accept the employer's online application link.
4. Apply using the AEWV application and select Global Workforce Seasonal Visa.
5. Upload all required documents and pay the applicable fee.
6. Check application status online and respond to any requests.

The job token must be approved specifically for the Global Workforce Seasonal Visa. You cannot use a token approved for an AEWV or Peak Seasonal Visa.

Apply online

Decision and visa start

Immigration New Zealand may ask for your original passport, medical examination or chest X-ray after application.

If approved, you receive an eVisa.

Your visa starts:

• One month before the job starts, if the season has not started; or
• On the grant date, if the season has started or your employment start date has passed.

You must enter New Zealand within 1 month of the visa start date.

Warning: Do not travel to New Zealand before the visa starts. Doing so will cancel the visa.

Travel and arrival

To return to New Zealand after travelling overseas, your visa must have a valid multiple-entry travel condition.

Warning: If you leave New Zealand without a multiple-entry condition, your visa expires.

Before travel, complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration. You may submit the digital declaration from 24 hours before beginning travel.

Carry evidence of your job offer when arriving in New Zealand.

Entry permission may be refused if you no longer meet character requirements, your circumstances have changed, or you refuse biometric collection.
