Indonesia Special Work Visa

Purpose

This visa is for Indonesian citizens with a full-time New Zealand job offer as a:

  • Trained chef
  • Halal slaughterer
  • Bahasa teacher's aide

At any one time, New Zealand can have:

  • 100 Indonesian chefs
  • 20 Halal slaughterers
  • 20 Bahasa teacher's aides

Eligibility

You must:

  • Be a citizen of Indonesia.
  • Hold a valid Indonesian passport.
  • Live permanently in Indonesia.
  • Be living in Indonesia when applying.
  • Have a full-time New Zealand job offer.
  • Be qualified or experienced for the offered role.
  • Be in good health and of good character.
  • Genuinely intend to meet visa conditions.

If applying to extend an Indonesia Special Work Category Visa while already in New Zealand, you may apply from New Zealand.

Stay and extensions

Your stay length depends on your job offer, up to 3 years.

If granted less than 3 years, you may apply for another visa for the remaining time.

After 3 years in New Zealand on this visa, you must stay outside New Zealand for 3 years before applying for another Indonesia Special Work Visa.

Character

Police certificates are required if your total time in New Zealand will be 24 months or longer across all visits, including previous visits on other visas.

Police certificates may also be required if Immigration New Zealand requests them.

Police certificates must:

  • Be less than 6 months old when submitted.
  • Cover countries where you are a citizen.
  • Cover countries where you lived over 5 years since age 17.
  • Include an English translation if not in English.

Applicants aged 16 or younger do not need police certificates.

Previously supplied police certificates do not need to be resubmitted if they are less than 24 months old.
