Purpose

The Miscellaneous Work Pass (MWP) is for eligible foreigners undertaking short-term work assignments in Singapore, including certain speakers, religious workers and journalists.

Eligibility

The applicant must be sponsored by a Singapore-based organisation or society and be one of the following:

  • A foreigner directly involved in organising or conducting a seminar, conference, workshop or gathering relating directly or indirectly to:
    • Religion or religious belief;
    • Race or a community; or
    • A cause or political end.
  • A speaker, moderator, facilitator or trainer involved in such activities.
  • A foreign religious worker giving talks related directly or indirectly to religion.
  • A foreign journalist, reporter or accompanying crew member covering an event or writing a story in Singapore, unless supported or sponsored by a Singapore Government agency.

Stay and Work Conditions

The pass permits assignments of up to 60 days.

Pass holders may participate only in the activity, at the venue, and on the date stated in the approval letter.

The pass is not renewable.

Cost and Processing

  • Application fee: $175
  • Processing time: Within 6 weeks for most cases; some cases may take longer.
  • Levy and quota: No foreign worker levy or quota applies.

Required Documents

The application requires:

  • Candidate’s passport personal-particulars page.
  • Synopsis of the talk or event, where applicable.
  • Completed and signed Miscellaneous Work Pass application form.
  • Supporting documents listed in the application form.
  • English translations and original copies for non-English documents.

MOM may request further documents during assessment.

How to Apply

The employer or local sponsor should apply at least 2 months before the assignment begins.

  1. Obtain the candidate’s written consent.
  2. Download and complete the Miscellaneous Work Pass application form.
  3. Have the form signed.
  4. Submit the form and supporting documents through the online application form.
  5. Pay the $175 fee by PayNow, Visa, Mastercard or Amex.

A Corppass account is required for online submission.

If approved, MOM emails the approval letter to the application contact person.

Travel and Arrival

Pass holders must also hold a valid Short-Term Visit Pass for their stay. The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority issues this pass on arrival.

Applicants should comply with the latest Singapore travel requirements.

Changes to Approved Events

For changes to the event synopsis, time, venue or programme, inform MOM through its notification form at least 1 month before the approved original programme date.

Important Warnings

  • Do not publicise the candidate’s event participation before pass approval.
  • Bring candidates into Singapore only after the pass is approved.
  • MOM will not extend a visit pass that expires before the work pass is issued.
