Purpose

This visa allows eligible Dutch citizens to holiday, work temporarily, and study or train in New Zealand.

Eligibility

You must:

• Be a citizen of the Netherlands aged 18 to 30.
• Hold a Netherlands passport valid for at least 3 months after visa expiry.
• Not have previously held a New Zealand working holiday visa, even if unused.
• Be in good health and of good character.
• Have genuine reasons for coming to New Zealand.
• Have at least NZD $4,200 for living costs.
• Hold full medical insurance for your entire stay.
• Have plans to leave New Zealand when your stay ends.

You may still apply if you have held working holiday visas for countries other than New Zealand.

Stay and visa validity

You can stay for up to 12 months.

You must enter New Zealand within 12 months of visa issue. You cannot delay or cancel this visa. If you do not arrive within 12 months, it expires and you cannot apply for another New Zealand working holiday visa.

The visa starts:

• On entry to New Zealand, if approved while outside New Zealand; or
• On the visa grant date, if already in New Zealand.

Work rights and restrictions

You do not need a job offer.

You may work in any job if:

• You work under an employment contract or contract for services.
• The work is legal.
• You do not take a permanent job.
• You do not operate a business as an owner.
• You do not provide commercial sexual services.
• You do not invest in a business providing commercial sexual services.

You must pay tax on New Zealand earnings and need an IRD number.

Study

You may study or train for up to 6 months in total.

Travel

After arrival, you may travel in and out of New Zealand as many times as you like before the visa expires.

Family

Your partner or child must apply for their own visa if they wish to come to New Zealand.

Evidence and documents

Required when applying

• Passport details.

• Medical examination or chest X-ray evidence.
• Police certificates.
• Proof of at least NZD $4,200.
• Proof of full medical insurance.
• An onward ticket, or funds to buy one.

Acceptable funds evidence may include bank statements, credit-card statements, bank drafts, or traveller's cheques.

Insurance evidence may include an insurance certificate or insurer approval letter. Insurance may need to cover hospital stays.

Your onward-travel funds must be additional to the NZD $4,200 living-cost requirement. Your ticket must be to a country you have the right to enter.

Health and character

You must answer health and character questions in the online application.

Immigration New Zealand may request:

• A chest X-ray, medical examination, or both.
• Police certificates.

Medical or chest X-ray evidence must be less than 3 months old when received. Police certificates must be less than 6 months old when submitted.

A criminal conviction or security risk may prevent visa approval.

3. Create or log in to an online account.
4. Complete the application in English.
5. Upload documents and pay applicable fees.
6. Monitor your online account for requests or updates.

Arrival requirements

All travellers must complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration.

• Air travellers: Submit from 24 hours before travel begins.
• Sea travellers: Submit from 24 hours before departure from the last overseas port.

You may be refused entry permission if you are not a genuine visitor, no longer meet character requirements, have changed circumstances, refuse biometric collection, or cannot show onward travel or sufficient departure funds.

Staying longer

You may be eligible for a further 3 months through a Working Holiday Extension Work Visa if you complete 3 months of seasonal work in New Zealand’s viticulture or horticulture industries.

If your temporary visa expires while that application is being decided, Immigration New Zealand will normally issue an Interim Visa.
