Purpose

This visa lets Norwegian citizens aged 18 to 30 holiday, work and study in New Zealand.

You do not need a job offer to apply.

Eligibility

You must:

• Be a citizen of Norway with a valid Norwegian passport.
• Be aged 18 to 30.
• Have at least NZD $4,200 for living costs.
• Have an onward ticket or enough additional money to buy one.
• Intend to leave New Zealand at the end of your stay.
• Have full medical insurance, including hospitalisation cover, for your whole stay.
• Be in good health and of good character.
• Genuinely intend to comply with visa conditions.
• Never have had approval for a New Zealand working holiday visa.

A prior New Zealand working holiday approval prevents eligibility, even if you did not use that visa. Working holiday approvals from other countries are allowed.

Stay and travel

You can stay for up to 12 months.

You must enter New Zealand within 12 months after the visa is granted.

The visa is valid from:

• Your arrival date, if you are outside New Zealand when granted the visa.
• The grant date, if you are already in New Zealand.

After arrival, you may leave and re-enter New Zealand as often as you like before the visa expires.

You must leave New Zealand before your visa expires.

Work rights and restrictions

You may work in any lawful job if:

• You work under an employment contract or contract for services.
• The job is not permanent.
• You do not operate a business as an owner.
• You do not provide commercial sexual services.
• You do not invest in a business providing commercial sexual services.

You cannot take a permanent job.

You must pay tax on New Zealand earnings. You will need a New Zealand bank account and an IRD number.

Study

You may study or train for up to 6 months in total during your stay.

Required evidence

Identity

Provide passport details in your online application. Details must exactly match your passport.

Your passport must be valid for:

• At least 15 months after first arrival, if applying outside New Zealand.
• At least 3 months after visa expiry, if applying in New Zealand.

Funds and onward travel

Provide evidence of at least NZD $4,200 for living costs, such as:

• Bank statements
• Credit card statements
• Bank drafts
• Traveller’s cheques

Also provide an onward ticket or evidence of enough additional funds to buy one.

Health and character

You may need a chest X-ray, medical examination, or police certificates. Immigration New Zealand will email you if further health evidence is required.

Insurance

Keep evidence of full medical insurance, including hospitalisation cover, such as an insurance certificate or insurer approval letter.

• Air travel: Submit from 24 hours before your journey begins.

Important warnings

You may be refused entry permission if you:

• Are not a genuine visitor.
• No longer meet character requirements.
• Have had a change in circumstances since visa grant.
• Refuse a photo, fingerprint, or iris scan.
• Cannot show onward travel evidence or sufficient funds.

Immigration New Zealand may ask to see evidence of your funds, onward travel, or medical insurance when you arrive.
