Purpose

The Peak Seasonal Visa allows you to work in New Zealand in an eligible seasonal job for an accredited employer.

You must have a job listed on the Peak Seasonal Visa job list and an employer-approved Peak Seasonal Visa job check.

Stay and repeat applications

You can work and stay in New Zealand for up to 7 months.

Your total stay on one or more Peak Seasonal Visas is limited to 7 months. After this, you must spend at least 4 months outside New Zealand before you can be granted another Peak Seasonal Visa.

Time on an Interim Visa granted after a Peak Seasonal Visa counts towards the 7-month limit.

You may apply for another Peak Seasonal Visa while outside New Zealand during the 4-month period.

Eligibility

You must:

• Have a current, full-time offer from an AEWV-accredited employer.
• Have an offer for at least 30 hours a week.
• Work in an occupation on the Peak Seasonal Visa job list.
• Meet any listed job requirements and applicable ANZSCO or NOL skill requirements.
• Have at least one season's experience in the same or similar job within the last 3 years.
• Meet your employer's skills, experience and qualification requirements.
• Be in good health and have good character.
• Genuinely intend to comply with visa conditions.
• Have acceptable medical insurance if the job offer is over 3 months.

Your job offer must be for at least one season, during or close to an industry or sector seasonal peak, and pay at least the market rate.

Job offer requirements

Your employer must provide:

• A signed job offer.
• An employment agreement.
• A job description.
• A unique online application link, called a job token.

The job token must be approved for the Peak Seasonal Visa. You cannot use a token approved for an Accredited Employer Work Visa or Global Workforce Seasonal Visa.

The employment agreement must state the employer and worker details, job title, work location, duties, required experience, hours, duration, start timeframe, pay and lawful employment conditions.

It cannot include unlawful deductions, a trial period, unlawful clauses or unacceptable bonding clauses.

Required evidence

Provide:

• Signed job offer.
• Employment agreement and job description.
• Passport or certificate of identity scan.
• One acceptable photo.
• Evidence of relevant seasonal work experience.
• Evidence of skills or qualifications, if required.
• Medical insurance evidence, if required.
• Police certificates, if required.
• Chest X-ray or medical certificate, if required.
• English translations of required documents not in English.

Your passport or certificate of identity must be valid for at least 3 months after your planned New Zealand departure date.

A CV or resume alone is not sufficient evidence of work experience. Acceptable evidence may include former-employer references, employment certificates, payslips or tax certificates.

Incomplete applications may not be held while Immigration New Zealand waits for further documents.

Health, insurance and character

Health

You may need a chest X-ray if staying more than 6 months and you are from, or have recently spent significant time in, a country without a low tuberculosis incidence.

Medical examination or chest X-ray evidence must be less than 3 months old when received, if requested.

Medical insurance

If working in New Zealand for 3 or more months, you must provide medical insurance evidence.

Insurance must cover medical treatment, prescribed medicine, ambulance, hospital care, emergency dental treatment, return home for serious illness or disability, and repatriation after death.

Character

Police certificates may be required if you are aged 17 or older and your total time in New Zealand will be 24 months or longer.

Certificates must be less than 6 months old when you apply. They are required from countries of citizenship and countries where you have spent more than 5 years since age 17, unless an eligible recent certificate was already provided.

A criminal conviction or security risk may affect your application.

How to apply

1. Receive a full-time job offer from an accredited employer.
2. Obtain the employer's job description, employment agreement and job token.
3. Gather all required evidence and translations.
4. Open the employer's link and accept the application request.
5. Use the AEWV online application and select Peak Seasonal Visa.
6. Upload documents, pay the applicable fees and submit.
7. Check your online account for updates.

Apply online

If you are in New Zealand while waiting, you must keep a valid visa. Immigration New Zealand will normally grant an Interim Visa if your temporary visa expires during processing.

Visa start and entry

Your visa starts:

• One month before the job begins, if the season has not started; or
• On the grant date, if the season or job start date has passed.

You must enter New Zealand within 1 month of the visa start date.

Do not travel to New Zealand before the visa starts. If you do, your Peak Seasonal Visa will be cancelled.

On arrival, complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration. You may need to show evidence of your job offer.

Entry permission may be refused if your circumstances have changed, you no longer meet character requirements, or you refuse biometric collection.

Visa conditions and rights

Your specific conditions are recorded in your eVisa.

Work

You may work only:

• In the job stated on your visa.
• For the employer stated on your visa.
• At the location stated on your visa.

If the job, employer or location changes, apply for a Job Change or variation of conditions. A Job Change is available only for another Peak Seasonal Visa list job. For a non-listed job, apply for a different work visa.

Your employer must continue paying the amount in your job offer and visa conditions.

Migrant workers have the same employment rights as New Zealand workers. Reporting mistreatment or unsafe work will not affect your visa.

Study

You may study for up to 3 months in any 12-month period.

You may apply for a variation of conditions to study longer. Employer-required work-related study may be permitted, and the employer must pay for it.

Travel

You need a valid multiple-entry travel condition to leave and return to New Zealand.

If you leave New Zealand without this condition, your visa expires.

Family and departure

You cannot include your partner or dependent children in your application. They are not eligible for a visa based on their relationship to you.

You must leave New Zealand before your visa expires.
