Purpose

This visa allows eligible Peruvian citizens to holiday, work and study in New Zealand.

The visa is currently closed and will open at 10:00 on 1 October 2026 (NZDT).

Eligibility

You must:

• Be a citizen of Peru aged 18 to 30.
• Hold a Peruvian passport valid for at least 3 months after visa expiry.
• Have completed at least 3 years of full-time tertiary study.
• Never have held a New Zealand working holiday visa, even if unused.
• Be in good health and of good character.
• Have genuine reasons for coming to New Zealand.
• Have full medical insurance for your whole stay.
• Plan to leave New Zealand at the end of your stay.

You do not need a job offer.

Funds

You must show funds for living costs:

• NZD $4,200 if you provide an acceptable English-language test result.
• NZD $7,000 if you do not provide an acceptable test result.

English test results must be no more than 2 years old.

You must also have an onward ticket, or enough additional money to buy one. This money must be separate from your living funds.

Stay and visa validity

You can stay for up to 12 months.

You must enter New Zealand within 12 months of visa issue. You cannot delay or cancel the visa. If you do not arrive within that period, it expires and you cannot apply for another working holiday visa.

The visa starts:

• On entry to New Zealand, if approved while overseas; or
• On the date issued, if approved while in New Zealand.

Work rights and conditions

You may work in temporary jobs for up to 12 months.

You may work for any one employer for up to 3 months.

You must:

• Work under an employment contract or contract for services.
• Do only legal work.
• Obtain an IRD number to pay New Zealand tax.

You must not:

• Take permanent employment.
• Operate a business as an owner.
• Provide commercial sexual services.
• Invest in a business providing commercial sexual services.

Study

You may study or train for up to 6 months in total.

Travel

After arrival, you may travel in and out of New Zealand as many times as you wish before the visa expires.

Family

A partner or child cannot be included in this visa application. They must apply for their own visa.

Documents and evidence

When applying, provide your passport details.

Immigration New Zealand may later request:

• Chest X-ray or medical examination evidence.
• Police certificates.
• Verified tertiary-study evidence.
• Evidence of funds.
• Acceptable English-language test result, if using the lower funds amount.
• Medical insurance evidence.
• Onward ticket or evidence of funds to buy one.

Document requirements

• Tertiary qualifications or transcripts must be verified by the Peru Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
• Police and medical certificates not in English require certified English translations.
• Medical examination or chest X-ray evidence must be less than 3 months old when received.
• Police certificates must be less than 6 months old when submitted.
• Enter identity details exactly as shown in your passport. Errors may delay, result in refusal, or lead to refusal of entry.

How to apply

1. Gather required documents and evidence.
2. Apply online in English through the Working Holiday Scheme online application.
3. Upload documents and pay applicable fees.
4. Check application status online.
5. Immigration New Zealand will email its decision.

If approved, you will receive an eVisa.

Arrival obligations

All travellers must complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration.

You can submit the declaration:

• By air: from 24 hours before your journey begins.
• By sea: from 24 hours before your ship leaves its last overseas port.

At the border, you may be asked for evidence of medical insurance, onward travel, or funds to leave New Zealand.

Important warnings

You may be refused entry permission if you:

• Are not a genuine visitor.
• No longer meet character requirements.
• Have had a change in circumstances.
• Refuse biometric collection.
• Cannot show onward travel or sufficient funds to leave.

Staying longer

If you complete 3 months of seasonal work in viticulture or horticulture, you may be eligible for a further 3 months through a Working Holiday Extension Work Visa.

If your temporary visa is due to expire while that application is being decided, Immigration New Zealand will normally issue an Interim Visa to allow lawful stay.
