Purpose

This resident visa is for Pitcairn Islanders offered skilled employment in New Zealand. It allows you to live, work and study in New Zealand indefinitely.

Eligibility

You must:

• Be a Pitcairn Islander.
• Be in good health and of good character.
• Have an offer of full-time skilled employment for at least 12 months.
• Hold New Zealand occupational registration where required.
• Meet all other resident visa requirements.

Your employer must not be on the Labour Inspectorate’s non-compliant employer list.

Skilled employment evidence

Provide a written employment agreement that includes:

• Detailed job description.
• Hours of work.
• Employment length.
• Salary or wages.
• Employment start date.

If offered contract work, provide your contract for service instead.

Occupational registration

If registration is required for your occupation, provide either:

• A certified copy of full or provisional New Zealand registration; or
• Confirmation from the registration body that you are eligible for registration.

Required Documents

Identity

Provide:

• Two acceptable head-and-shoulders photos.
• Original or certified passport or certificate of identity.
• Original or certified full birth certificate.

Immigration New Zealand may request your original passport if you initially provide a certified copy.

Health

Provide a chest X-ray and medical examination.

Character

Applicants aged 17 or older must provide police certificates from:

• Every country of citizenship; and
• Any country where they stayed 12 months or more during the last 10 years.

Police certificates must be less than 6 months old when you apply.

Family Provisions

You may include your partner and dependent children aged 24 or younger in your application.

Family members must meet resident visa requirements, including identity, health and character requirements. Provide evidence of your relationship, such as marriage and birth certificates.

Your family must be included in your resident visa application to travel to New Zealand with you.

Arrival and Entry

After the visa is granted, you and included family members have 12 months to arrive in New Zealand. If you do not arrive within that period, the visa expires and you must apply again.

All travellers must complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration:

• By air: from 24 hours before travel begins.
• By sea: from 24 hours before departure from the last overseas port.

You may be refused entry permission if you:

• No longer meet character requirements.
• Have had a change in circumstances since visa grant.
• Refuse a photo, fingerprint or iris scan.

Travel Conditions

You may travel in and out of New Zealand as often as you like until your travel conditions expire.

Travel conditions expire 2 years after your first arrival in New Zealand as a resident.

Important: If you are outside New Zealand when travel conditions expire, your visa also expires.

After travel conditions expire, apply for either:

• A variation of travel conditions; or
• A Permanent Resident Visa.

Visa and Passport Obligations

To travel, your visa must be linked to a valid passport. If your passport expires, apply to transfer the visa to your new passport before travelling.

For a transfer, you must:

• Send old and new passports.
• Complete Application for Transfer or Confirmation of a Visa.
• Pay a transfer fee.
