Purpose

This visa lets eligible Spanish citizens holiday, work and study in New Zealand.

Eligibility

You must:

• Be aged 18 to 30.
• Be a citizen of the Kingdom of Spain with a valid Spanish passport.
• Hold a passport valid for at least 3 months after visa expiry.
• Not have held a New Zealand working holiday visa before, even if unused.
• Be in good health and of good character.
• Have genuine reasons for coming to New Zealand.
• Have at least NZD $4,200 for living expenses.
• Hold full medical insurance for your entire stay.
• Have onward travel arrangements or enough additional money to buy a ticket.

The money for onward travel must be separate from the NZD $4,200 living-expenses requirement.

Stay and validity

You may stay for up to 12 months.

You must enter New Zealand within 12 months of visa grant. You cannot delay or cancel the visa. If you do not arrive within that period, it expires and you cannot apply for another New Zealand working holiday visa.

The visa starts:

• On entry to New Zealand, if granted while you are outside New Zealand; or
• On the grant date, if you are already in New Zealand.

Work rights and restrictions

You may work for any employer for the full visa period. You do not need a job offer.

You must:

• Work under an employment contract or contract for services.
• Do only legal work.
• Pay New Zealand tax and obtain an IRD number.

You must not:

• Take a permanent job.
• Operate a business as an owner.
• Provide commercial sexual services.
• Invest in a business providing commercial sexual services.

Study

You may study or train for up to 6 months total.

Travel

After arrival, you may leave and re-enter New Zealand as often as you wish before the visa expires.

Family

Partners and children cannot be included under this visa. Each person who wants to come to New Zealand must apply for their own visa.

Required evidence

When applying, provide your passport details. Immigration New Zealand may later request:

• Proof of funds of at least NZD $4,200.
• Medical insurance certificate or insurer approval letter.
• Onward ticket, or proof of funds to buy one.
• Police certificates.
• Medical examination or chest X-ray evidence.

If requested:

• Medical examination and chest X-ray evidence must be less than 3 months old when received.
• Police certificates must be less than 6 months old when submitted.
• Police and medical certificates not in English require certified English translations.
• Submit scanned copies of original documents.

How to apply

1. Gather required documents and evidence.
2. Apply online in English through the Immigration New Zealand online service.
3. Create or log in to an account.
4. Complete the application, upload documents and pay applicable fees.
5. Check application status online.
6. Immigration New Zealand will email its decision.

If approved, you receive an eVisa.

Arrival obligations

Before travelling, complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration:

• By air: from 24 hours before your journey begins.
• By sea: from 24 hours before departure from the last overseas port.

You may be refused entry permission if you are not a genuine visitor, do not meet character requirements, have changed circumstances, refuse biometric collection, or cannot show onward-travel evidence or funds.

Staying longer

You may be eligible for a further 3 months through a Working Holiday Extension Work Visa if you complete 3 months of seasonal work in the viticulture or horticulture industries.

If your temporary visa expires while that application is being decided, Immigration New Zealand will normally issue an Interim Visa to let you remain lawfully.
