Purpose

This visa allows eligible Taiwan passport holders to holiday, work temporarily and study in New Zealand.

The visa is closed for 2026. You may apply next year.

Eligibility

You must:

• Be aged 18 to 30.
• Hold a Taiwan passport and Taiwan household registration certificate.
• Have a passport valid for at least 3 months after visa expiry.
• Have not previously held a New Zealand working holiday visa, even if unused.
• Be in good health and of good character.
• Have genuine reasons for coming to New Zealand.
• Have at least NZD $4,200 for living expenses.
• Hold full medical insurance for your entire stay.
• Have onward travel arrangements or enough extra money to buy a ticket.

The funds for onward travel must be in addition to the NZD $4,200 living-expenses requirement.

A prior working holiday visa for another country does not prevent an application.

Stay and validity

You may stay for up to 12 months.

You must enter New Zealand within 12 months of visa issue. You cannot delay or cancel the visa. If you do not arrive within that period, it expires and you cannot apply for another New Zealand working holiday visa.

The visa starts:

• On entry to New Zealand, if approved while you are outside New Zealand; or
• On the date it is granted, if approved while you are in New Zealand.

Work rights and restrictions

You may work in any lawful job if:

• You work under an employment contract or contract for services.
• You work temporarily, not permanently.
• You work for any one employer for no more than 3 months.
• You do not operate a business as an owner.
• You do not provide commercial sexual services.
• You do not invest in a business providing commercial sexual services.

You do not need a job offer.

If working in New Zealand, you need an Inland Revenue Department (IRD) number to pay tax.

Study

You may study or train for up to 6 months in total during your stay.

Family

A partner or child who wants to come to New Zealand must apply for their own visa.

Travel

After arrival, you may travel in and out of New Zealand as many times as you wish before the visa expires.

Health and character

You must answer health and character questions in the application.

Immigration New Zealand may request:

• A medical examination or chest X-ray.
• Police certificates.
• Further evidence of health or character.

Medical examination or chest X-ray evidence must be less than 3 months old when received.

Police certificates must be less than 6 months old when submitted.

A criminal conviction or security risk may result in the visa not being granted.

Required evidence

When applying, provide your passport details.

Immigration New Zealand may later request:

• Medical examination or chest X-ray evidence.
• Police certificates.
• Evidence of at least NZD $4,200.
• Medical-insurance evidence.
• An onward ticket or proof you can buy one.

Acceptable funds evidence may include:

• Bank statements.
• Credit-card statements.
• Bank drafts.
• Traveller’s cheques.

Medical-insurance evidence may include:

• Insurance certificate.
• Insurance-company approval letter.

For non-English police and medical certificates, provide certified English translations and scanned original documents. English translations of other evidence may help avoid processing delays.

How to apply

1. Gather required documents and evidence.
2. Ensure identity details exactly match your passport.
3. Apply online, in English, through an Immigration New Zealand account.
4. Upload documents and pay applicable fees.
5. Check your online account for updates.
6. Respond if Immigration New Zealand requests further information.

If approved, you receive an eVisa by email.

Arrival obligations

Before travelling, complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD).

• Air travellers may submit from 24 hours before their journey begins.
• Sea travellers may submit from 24 hours before their ship leaves its last overseas port.

You may be refused entry permission if you are not a genuine visitor, no longer meet character requirements, have changed circumstances, refuse biometric collection, or cannot show onward travel or sufficient funds to leave New Zealand.

Staying longer

If you complete 3 months of seasonal work in viticulture or horticulture, you may be eligible for a further 3 months through a Working Holiday Extension Work Visa.

If your temporary visa expires while that application is being decided, Immigration New Zealand will normally issue an Interim Visa to keep you lawfully in New Zealand.
