Purpose

This resident visa is for holders of a Talent (Arts, Culture, Sports) Work Visa who have actively worked in their declared talent field in New Zealand for more than 2 years.

It allows you to live, work and study in New Zealand indefinitely.

Eligibility

You must:

• Hold a Talent (Arts, Culture, Sports) Work Visa for at least 24 months.
• Have actively engaged in your declared talent field for the last 24 months.
• Remain prominent in your declared field.
• Show your continued presence will enhance New Zealand’s achievements and participation in that field.
• Have an acceptable sponsor.
• Have support from a New Zealand organisation of national repute.
• Be in New Zealand when applying.
• Be of good character and good health.
• Not have received welfare benefits or assistance while on the relevant work visa.

Immigration New Zealand checks its records and your passport to confirm when you first arrived on the Talent Work Visa and to confirm your location.

Sponsor and Organisation Support

Your sponsor must complete the Talent (Arts, Culture and Sports) Sponsorship Form (INZ 1091) and guarantee accommodation and financial support for your first 2 years of residence, if needed.

Your sponsor may be:

• An individual
• An organisation
• A government agency

The sponsoring organisation does not need to be the same as your sponsor.

A representative of a New Zealand organisation of national repute must complete Section B of INZ 1091 to support your continued presence in New Zealand.

Required Evidence

Identity

Provide:

• One photo for an online application, or two for paper.
• Original or certified passport or certificate of identity.
• Original or certified full birth certificate.

Applicants applying within Hong Kong or Macao must also provide an identity-card copy.

Character

Applicants aged 17 or older must provide police certificates from:

• Their country of citizenship.
• Every country lived in for 12 months or more during the last 10 years.

Police certificates must be less than 6 months old when you apply. Non-English certificates require English translations.

Health

Provide a chest X-ray and medical examination.

Active Engagement

Provide:

• An Inland Revenue Summary of Earnings since your Talent Work Visa grant.
• Evidence of active engagement in your declared field for 24 months.

Evidence may include:

• GST receipts, bank statements or tax returns.
• Performance, exhibition, activity or event schedules.
• Letters praising your work.
• A supporting-organisation letter detailing your activities.

Prominence and Continued Presence

Evidence of prominence may include:

• A letter from your supporting organisation.
• Letters from field specialists.
• Press clippings.

You may also provide letters from New Zealand organisations or field experts confirming that your continued presence will enhance New Zealand’s achievements and participation.

Family

You may include your partner and dependent children aged 24 or younger.

Family members must meet resident-visa requirements for:

• Identity
• Character
• Health
• English language

Provide evidence of your relationship with your partner and dependent children.

If your partner or dependent children have, or have applied for, a temporary New Zealand visa based on their relationship with you, they must be included in your residence application.

English for Family Members

Your partner and dependent children aged 16 or older must meet minimum English-language requirements. Evidence may include:

• An acceptable English test result.
• An English-speaking background.
• Other evidence of English competence.

English test results must be no more than 2 years old.

If included family members aged 16 or older do not meet English requirements, you may pay for English language classes before the visa can be granted.

Rights After Grant

Work and Study

You may work for any employer in any occupation and undertake any study.

Travel

You may travel in and out of New Zealand as often as you like until travel conditions expire, normally 2 years after your first arrival as a resident.

After travel conditions expire, apply for either:

• A variation of travel conditions, or
• A Permanent Resident Visa.

Important Warnings

• If you are outside New Zealand when travel conditions expire, your resident visa also expires.
• Your visa must be in a valid passport to travel.
• If your passport expires, transfer the visa to your new passport before travelling.
• A visa transfer requires old and new passports, INZ 1023, and a transfer fee.
