Purpose

This visa allows eligible Turkish citizens to holiday, work and study in New Zealand.

Eligibility

You must:

• Be aged 18 to 30.
• Be a citizen of the Republic of Turkey.
• Hold a Turkish passport valid at least 3 months after visa expiry.
• Not have previously held a New Zealand working holiday visa, even if unused.
• Be in good health and of good character.
• Hold a tertiary qualification involving at least 4 years’ full-time study.
• Speak and understand English.
• Have genuine reasons for coming to New Zealand.
• Have at least NZD $7,000 for living expenses.
• Hold full medical insurance for your entire stay.
• Have onward travel arrangements, or money to buy a ticket, in addition to living funds.

Previous working holiday visas for countries other than New Zealand do not prevent an application.

English Requirement

Provide either:

• An acceptable English language test result no more than 2 years old, or
• A tertiary qualification from an institution where all tuition was in English.

If your qualification is from a Turkish university, provide proof that tuition was in English.

Stay and Visa Validity

You can stay for up to 12 months.

You must enter New Zealand within 12 months of visa issue. You cannot delay or cancel the visa. If you do not arrive within that period, it expires and you cannot apply for another New Zealand working holiday visa.

The visa starts:

• On your arrival, if approved while outside New Zealand; or
• On the date issued, if approved while in New Zealand.

Work Rights and Conditions

You may work in temporary jobs for up to 12 months.

You can work for any one employer for up to 3 months. You must:

• Work under an employment contract or contract for services.
• Do legal work only.
• Not accept a permanent job.
• Not operate a business as an owner.
• Not provide commercial sexual services.
• Not invest in a business providing commercial sexual services.

You do not need a job offer to apply.

If working in New Zealand, you need an Inland Revenue Department (IRD) number to pay tax.

Study

You may study or train for up to 6 months total during your stay.

Travel

After arrival, you may travel in and out of New Zealand as often as you like until the visa expires.

Health, Character and Insurance

You must answer health and character questions when applying. Immigration New Zealand may later request:

• A chest X-ray or medical examination.
• Police certificates.
• Further information about health or character.

Medical or chest X-ray evidence must be less than 3 months old when received. Police certificates must be less than 6 months old when submitted.

You must have full medical insurance, including hospital cover, for your whole stay.

Required Evidence

When applying, provide your passport details.

Immigration New Zealand may request:

• Tertiary qualification evidence.
• English test results or English-tuition evidence.
• Bank, credit-card or other financial statements showing NZD $7,000.
• Medical insurance certificate or insurer approval letter.
• Police certificates.
• Medical examination or chest X-ray evidence.
• Onward ticket, or evidence of funds to buy one.

Provide certified English translations of required non-English police and medical certificates, with scanned originals. Translations of other evidence may help avoid delays.

How to Apply

1. Gather your passport, qualification, English, financial, insurance and onward-travel evidence.
2. Apply online in English through the Immigration New Zealand online service.
3. Upload documents and pay applicable fees.
4. Respond if further information is requested.
5. Check application status online; Immigration New Zealand will email its decision.

If approved, you receive an eVisa.

Arrival Requirements

Complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration:

• By air: from 24 hours before your journey begins.
• By sea: from 24 hours before departure from the last overseas port.

You may be refused entry permission if you are not a genuine visitor, no longer meet character requirements, have changed circumstances, refuse biometric collection, or cannot show onward travel or funds to leave New Zealand.

Staying Longer

You may be eligible for a further 3 months through a Working Holiday Extension Work Visa if you complete 3 months of seasonal work in viticulture or horticulture.

If your temporary visa expires while an extension application is being decided, Immigration New Zealand will normally issue an Interim Visa to allow lawful stay.
