Purpose

This visa is for participants in Tourism New Zealand’s Visiting Media Programme. It allows up to 1 month in New Zealand to do work associated with that programme.

Visa-waiver country travellers do not need this visa for a one-month visiting media programme, but must hold an NZeTA before travel.

Eligibility

You must:

• Take part in a visiting media programme.
• Provide a Tourism New Zealand invitation or NZTE letter of introduction.
• Have genuine intentions to meet visa conditions.
• Be in good health and of good character.
• Have enough funds or an acceptable sponsor.
• Have onward travel arrangements or funds.
• Agree to pay your own health-care costs.

Stay and Work Conditions

You may stay for up to 1 month.

You may only do work associated with your visiting media programme. You may be able to work remotely for an overseas employer or client while in New Zealand.

To stay longer than 1 month or do other work, you must apply for a work visa.

You must leave New Zealand before your visa expires.

Funds and Onward Travel

You must show at least:

• NZD $1,000 per month, or
• NZD $400 per month if accommodation is prepaid.

Evidence may include bank statements, credit-card statements, bank drafts, traveller’s cheques, prepaid accommodation evidence, or a completed Sponsorship Form for Temporary Entry.

You must have a ticket to leave New Zealand, enough money to buy one, or sponsorship for onward travel. Unless your visa label or letter says “Return/onward travel not required”, you must have onward travel arrangements whenever you travel to New Zealand.

Health and Character

You must be in good health. Immigration New Zealand may require a chest X-ray, medical examination, or both.

For stays under 6 months, a chest X-ray is not normally required. For stays under 12 months, a medical certificate is not normally required.

You must be of good character. Police certificates are required if your combined time in New Zealand will be 24 months or longer across all visits, or if requested.

Police certificates must:

• Be less than 6 months old when submitted.
• Cover countries where you are a citizen.
• Cover countries where you lived over 5 years since age 17.

Applicants aged 16 or younger do not need police certificates.

Family Provisions

You may include your partner and dependent children aged 19 or younger in your application.

You must provide evidence of the genuine relationship, such as marriage and birth certificates. Family members must provide identity evidence and meet health and character requirements.

Required Documents

Provide:

• Passport or certificate of identity.
• One acceptable photo online, or two for paper applications.
• Tourism New Zealand invitation or NZTE introduction letter.
• Evidence of funds, accommodation, sponsorship, or onward travel.
• English translations for non-English documents.
• Family relationship and identity evidence, if including family.

Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after your intended departure from New Zealand.

Additional Documents

Chinese citizens applying from China must also provide:

• Hukou household registration book.
• Chinese identity card.
• Form INZ 1027 for paper applications.

Applicants in Hong Kong or Macao must provide an identity-card copy. Paper applicants must also provide Form INZ 1220.

Application Steps

1. Apply online through Immigration Online.
2. Upload a passport copy and supporting evidence.
3. Pay the applicable fee.
4. Send your passport if Immigration New Zealand requests it.
5. Check country-specific process and cost information after entering nationality details.

Arrival and Travel

All travellers must complete the New Zealand Traveller Declaration.

• Air travellers can submit it from 24 hours before travel begins.
• Sea travellers can submit it from 24 hours before the ship leaves its last overseas port.

To leave and return to New Zealand, you need valid multiple-entry travel conditions. If you leave without these conditions, your visa expires.

Important Warnings

You may be refused entry permission if you:

• No longer meet character requirements.
• Have changed circumstances since the visa was granted.
• Refuse a photo, fingerprint, or iris scan.

Immigration New Zealand may ask to see evidence of funds on arrival.

From 24 September 2026, new applications for most visitor visas can only be submitted through enhanced Immigration Online.
