Purpose

This visa lets eligible working holiday visa holders remain in New Zealand for up to another 3 months after completing qualifying seasonal horticulture or viticulture work.

Eligibility

You must:

• Be in New Zealand on a current working holiday visa.
• Have completed at least 3 months of qualifying seasonal horticulture or viticulture work in New Zealand.
• Not previously have held a Working Holiday Extension Work Visa.
• Be in good health and of good character.
• Have genuine reasons for staying.
• Have enough money for living costs.
• Hold full medical insurance, if required by your original working holiday visa.
• Plan to leave New Zealand at the end of your stay.

Immigration New Zealand checks its records to confirm your current visa status and that you have not received this extension before.

Qualifying seasonal work

The work must involve planting, maintaining, harvesting, or packing crops in horticulture or viticulture.

It:

• Does not need to be continuous.
• Does not need to be for the same employer.
• Must have been completed while on your current working holiday visa.

Work in plant nurseries, food processing, or manufacturing does not qualify.

Stay and Conditions

You can stay for up to 3 months.

Work and Study Rights

Work

You have the same work conditions as under your first working holiday visa.

If you work in New Zealand, you must pay tax and need an Inland Revenue Department (IRD) number.

Study

You may study or train for up to 6 months in total, including study or training completed under your original working holiday visa.

Travel

You may travel in and out of New Zealand as many times as you like before the visa expires.

Documents

Provide:

• A passport or certificate of identity copy.
• Two acceptable photos.
• Evidence of at least 3 months’ qualifying seasonal work.

Your passport or certificate of identity must be valid for at least 3 months after your planned departure from New Zealand.

Immigration New Zealand may later request:

• Medical examination or chest X-ray evidence.
• Police certificates.
• Medical insurance evidence, if originally required.
• An onward ticket or evidence you can pay for one.

Police certificates

If you are 17 or older and your total time in New Zealand will be 24 months or more across all visits, you must provide police certificates from:

• Your country of citizenship.
• Any country where you have lived for 5 years or more since turning 17.

Police certificates must be less than 6 months old when submitted.

Translations

Provide certified English translations of required police and medical certificates not in English, plus scanned originals. Translations of other supporting evidence may help avoid delays.

How to Apply

1. Gather identity, seasonal-work, onward-travel, and other supporting evidence.
2. Complete the SSE/WHE Work Visa Application (INZ 1153).
3. Attach supporting documents.
4. Post or courier the application to Immigration New Zealand.
5. Pay the applicable fee.
6. Wait for Immigration New Zealand’s decision email.

If approved, you will receive an eVisa by email.

Important Warnings

• You can receive this extension only once.
• Incorrect passport or identity details may delay or lead to refusal.
• Immigration New Zealand may decline the application if you have criminal convictions or pose a security risk.
• You may be asked to show an onward ticket or sufficient funds to buy one.
